David Sheldon Artist Reception

Artist David Sheldon is filling the Tointon Gallery for Visual Arts, 651 10th Avenue, with two unique sets of abstract expressionistic paintings that are all interconnected, yet different. Sheldon calls his exhibit “Murmuration,” a title that reflects the movement and synchronicity of birds in flight. The exhibit opens Friday, June 25 and runs through Friday, July 20.
There is a closing reception planned for Friday, July 20, from 5 to 7 p.m., where the public is invited to meet and mingle with the artist.
In the exhibit, art pieces are placed in grid patterns throughout the space, making this a unique display and for the most part, Sheldon’s exhibit consists of “Field Guide to the Birds of North America,” a collection of paintings coordinated to create a singular impression. The other part of his show, perhaps only a quarter of the exhibit’s space, consists of “Falling Apart/Coming Together: Portraits.” Viewers of his art will notice repeated elements and distinct features through a multitude of small paintings.
According to Sheldon, “I want to see what the paint has to say, rather than say what I want with the paint. In this way, something vital and alive can be created.” And he feels like this is something he’s accomplished with the space in Tointon Gallery.
The Tointon Gallery presents twelve changing shows each year to provide enjoyment, education and to encourage dialogue around art with a mission to expose the community to a variety of media, artist styles and skill levels.
