Travis Krause, a Colorado artist and angler at heart, will dedicate the commissioned public art piece, “In the Current,” located at the Greeley Recreation Center, 651 10th Ave., on Friday, April 5 from 5 to 7 p.m. in conjunction with First Friday. This piece is located to the right of the double doors to the swimming pool, allowing visitors to meditate on their relationship with nature when taking a dip into the pool.
Krause has over two decades of professional arts experience in a diverse range of materials, processes and styles. Krause’s artwork has been recognized in several local and national publications and juried shows and has received several awards and commissions. In addition to being an artist, he also shares his knowledge of art by teaching and leading workshops around the world.
This newly installed piece celebrates living in the Rockies and outdoor adventure. The piece blends the distinction between realism and abstraction and features layered surfaces and patterns that showcase the depth of the water and the allure and calmness of fish. There is always something new to discover in this piece. The subtle glinting light or the embellished color are intended to provide the viewer with a new experience with each glance.
The City of Greeley boasts over 100 memorable, thought-provoking, and enduring art projects that enrich the experience of visitors and residents alike. In 1998 the City of Greeley and City Council made a commitment to enhance the city’s public art collection by adopting a 1% for Art Program. This program sets aside one percent of the cost of new capital improvement projects as funds for acquiring, maintaining and commissioning art. The program has a solid foundation that instills a heightened sense of pride within the Greeley community.
