High school student intern Zeus Manzanares will be heading a tour he carefully researched and prepared for the Linn Grove Cemetery in Greeley, 1700 Cedar Avenue. As part of his summer cemetery administrative internship period, Zeus took note of the many graves of people presently interred at such historical location. Linn Grove Cemetery is the resting place of individuals who were part of the history of Greeley, were influential to still current Colorado laws, prominent families of Greeley, veterans of war, inventors, and even those with well-known unfortunate deaths.
The tour to be held Saturday, August 25, is set to start at 8:30 a.m. The general public and interested history enthusiasts can meet at the Linn Grove Cemetery Bell Tower and follow Zeus through the nearly 30 graves he chose for the tour. The same is expected to last about an hour.
“I chose an internship at the cemetery because I am fascinated with history and was interested in learning the historical aspect of our town.” Responded Zeus to why an internship at a cemetery question. “Thus being said, I wanted to create a tour to share the knowledge I gained with other people who have a common interest in history.”
The City of Greeley in conjunction with the Weld County School District 6 Career Explore Intern Program, provide local high school students the opportunity to explore a wide variety of jobs and gain hands-on experience during their paid summer internships.
The Linn Grove Cemetery, established in 1874, is one of the oldest fully operating and still growing cemeteries in the state of Colorado.
