Army Corps of Engineers Scheduled to Unveil Plans for Poudre River Corridor Improvements in Greeley
Following many years of investigation, study and public input of the Cache la Poudre River in the Greeley area, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers presented a plan to Greeley City Council in late 2015 for proposed projects to improve the river corridor. In early 2016, the City of Greeley entered into a partnership agreement with the Corps to undertake selected ecosystem restoration and recreational improvement projects in several of Greeley’s natural areas.
On Wednesday, May 30th, from 6 to 8 p.m., the Corps of Engineers will host a public open house at the Poudre Learning Center, 8313 F St, regarding the first phase of these projects for the Poudre River Corridor.
Attendees will learn about planned Army Corps of Engineers ecosystem restoration work that will begin shortly and continue through the fall. During construction, the Poudre River Trail will remain open for public use but the natural areas alongside the trail will close. The meeting serves as a chance for the public to learn more about the project.
“Coming soon, chaos before beauty!” quips City of Greeley Natural Lands Coordinator Karen Scopel.
Upon completion, these areas will provide improved wildlife habitat and river health. The project will also provide improved access to the natural areas along the corridor, including nature trails and boardwalks through wetland areas.
